About Us

Don and Susan Young met at a photography class in Oswego, Illinois. They moved to the Asheville, NC area over 30 years ago, partly because of the vibrant art scene and inspiring landscape. Their love and appreciation for art and color have helped them succeed in many areas, including photography, graphic arts, home design and construction, and now their chosen art.

Why dogs? Don and Susan got their first golden retriever Taylor, in 1994. She introduced Susan to the world of obedience competitions which she has enjoyed ever since. Their circle of friends is comprised mainly of dog-loving people, many of whom compete with their pups. They currently share their home with three golden retrievers: Tripp, Tyler, and Toke

Don is a retired custom home remodeler who ran a thriving business for many years. His first dog portrait was a pencil and pastel of his golden Tag, drawn not long after we lost him to cancer. Since then, he has painted and drawn many other dogs on commission or because an image speaks to him.

Susan has been a real estate Broker for over 20 years. She is a glass artist in her spare time, bringing ideas and portraits to life through sunlight and glass. She also publishes a monthly newsletter called the Competitive Canine of the Carolinas. This newsletter lists all kinds of events and training resources for people who compete with their dogs. Moving to the mountains? Call Susan! She can help you find the perfect home for you and your dog.

We often have finished pieces for sale, or we are happy to discuss a commission with you.
